My leadership journey began at KFC in 2017, when I joined as a Team Member shortly after graduating from Moi University. I was a young girl with strong academic credentials but very little experience navigating leadership or the corporate world. My transition from Team Member to Shift Supervisor was not easy, but I was fortunate to have Joyce Chege walk alongside me.
Joyce saw potential in me long before I could see it in myself. Through consistent coaching, mentorship, encouragement and honest conversations, she helped me build confidence and understand that my growth was a result of hard work, merit and the potential I carried within me.
One of the most impactful parts of my journey was being introduced to Heartstyles. Through the programme and continued coaching, Joyce helped me understand my leadership behaviours, recognise when I was operating Below the Line, and consciously choose Above the Line behaviours. More importantly, she created a safe space where I could reflect, find my own answers and grow without ever feeling judged or threatened.
What made Joyce’s coaching different was that she never simply gave me answers. She asked the right questions, challenged my thinking and empowered me to navigate challenges for myself. She helped me appreciate who I was, embrace my experiences and believe in the leader I could become.
I have since grown from a young Team Member into a Regional Coach, which is far beyond what I ever imagined for myself when I joined KFC. Looking back, I realise that I was not only coached; I was nurtured, mentored, empowered and genuinely believed in.
Joyce has shown me what human-centred leadership looks like. She made me feel seen, valued and capable, and her investment in me has shaped not only the leader I am today, but also the kind of leader I aspire to be for others.
I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to have walked this journey with her. She reminded me that leadership is not just about the position you hold, it is about the people you help become better versions of themselves. Hope my leadership will always bring that impact to others
